Brazil´s Covid-19 death toll surpassed 450,000 on Tuesday, as delays plague the hard-hit country´s vaccine rollout and epidemiologists warned a brutal new surge of the virus could be coming.
The health ministry reported 2,173 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the official number of lives lost to the coronavirus in Brazil to 452,031, second only to the United States.
The health minister said there are 1,250 vials of Amphotericin-B injection available for the treatment of patients presently.
He said 421 cases of black fungus have been reported in the state so far and are being given treatment in various hospitals of the state
The situation has stabilized somewhat, with an average of 1,854 Covid-19 deaths per day over the past week — down from more than 3,000 in mid-April.
The overall number of infections reached 16,194,209. A total of 73,453 new cases have been recorded in the past day.
More than 14.6 million people have recovered.
The leader of the commission, Amazonas state Senator Omar Aziz, said Saturday that he would call Pazuello in for questioning again, this time without habeas corpus protection.
